Can Honey prevent allergies?

Can honey prevent allergies

I take a tablespoon of local, raw bee honey every day to help with the pollen in the air right now.  At what age can children have honey? Will this help prevent allergies for my 18 month old?

Children can have honey after 12 months. Historically, honey has had many medical uses. The Ancient Egyptians used honey to treat skin infections. There is good evidence that honey can be used to effectively treat cough symptoms. I often recommend 1 teaspoon of honey to reduce coughing for children older than 12 months.

There is no evidence to support the belief that local honey can prevent the development of allergies. In 2002, Dr. T.V. Rajan from the University of Connecticut published the results of his research on this topic and concluded, “This study does not confirm the widely held belief that honey relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis.”

I know that babies under 1 are not supposed to eat raw honey but when can they eat food with honey in them (i.e., Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Maid graham crackers, etc.)?
